1. THE RIGHTS OF DISABLED CHILDREN

Based on legislations and policies, this workshop is aimed at parents/carers of disabled children up to the age of 25. It informs about the legal basis for entitlements to support services and empowers them with the skills to deal with statutory agencies. The law in the UK establishes entitlements to such services however, it can be quite stressful when difficulties are encountered due to the power imbalance between families and authorities.

Please note that Educational Health Care Plans are only referenced but not covered in detail in this workshop.

2. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR PARENTS OF DISABLED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

This workshop empowers and informs parent /carers to navigate the maze of services and to effectively manage interactions with professionals. These include social care, education, health and welfare benefits departments. There is a focus on strategies for effective communication to address the power imbalance between families and professionals. This includes tips for making successful complaints, types of complaints and examples of template wording for use during disputes.
